Description
Vernonia gigantea
The stems of this Giant Ironweed can grow up to 9-15 feet tall. Very appropriately named! Showy inflorescences at top of tall, sturdy stems; large, lance-shaped leaves. The Stem is either green or purplish green colored and can be either hair or pubescent. The leaves are up to 10 inches long and 2½ inches across. Best suited for moist sites. Attractive to butterflies. The seeds are wind-dispersed.
