Woody native perennial vine with tendrils, fragrant tubular tangerine flowers that are spectacular blooms when grown in full sun blooming in mid to late summer. Will tolerate heavy to light shade but may not bloom as profusely as in full sun. During fall the foliage turns reddish purple and may be evergreen to semi-evergreen in the south. In zone 5 vine die back and new growth begins the following spring. Pruning is best after flowering or during fall to winter when dormant.

Can become a vigorous vine in the right location. The cross-section of the stems show a ‘cross’ hence the common name
