Also known as: Carolina Allspice
Native, deciduous shrub with wonderful sweet tropical fruit fragrance, hence the name sweetshrub. Dark green leaves have a camphor or clove like scent when crushed. Dark red flowers appearing in spring and sporadically continue throughout the summer. Very resistant to disease and insect problems. Does form suckering habits. Grow in a shrub border or as specimen plant.
