About Vincent
We are located in Douglas, Georgia which is seated in Coffee County in Southeast Ga. Our operation is a family-owned business managed by myself, with part time help & support from my husband Roger, and my son Roger, Jr. Along with my girl friends, we barter and trade labor for plants. All these helping hands are truly a blessing to me. We are certified by the Georgia Department of Agriculture Live Plant Division and are inspected regularly throughout the year.
I am a ‘Stay At Home Mom’ and have been a Master Gardener since 1996, with a passion for digging in the dirt. I love anything that is nature- related, including hummingbirds and butterflies. I, also, raise exotic and farm animals, some of which are potbellied pigs, peafowls, chickens and guineas. My dream of opening a backyard nursery operation became a reality back in April of 2006. However, late one spring afternoon, while hurrying to finish mowing my yard before dark , I stepped-off of the lawnmower and sprained my ankle big time. That sprained-ankle resulted in another years delay in the opening of my backyard nursery. So, I started out again in 2007, but it still wasn't meant to be... My dear, sweet father became very ill, and we lost him on July 7, 2007. I did not bounce back nearly as fast as I had hoped to, after losing Daddy.
Now it's 2010, and I'm busy growing stock plants for a larger inventory. As my plants bloom, I am taking photos of my perennials to be included in my website gallery. Plans are to have a very nice selection of plants available for the spring of 2010. During the winter months, I'll have more time to dedicate to developing this website.
We, at Vincent Gardens, specialize in growing plants that attract hummingbirds and butterflies to the garden. Our backyard nursery is stocked full of host and nectar plants for butterflies, hummingbirds, drought tolerant perennials, woody ornamental shrubs, & trees. All perennials and shrubs that we grow are under natural conditions, using high quality potting media, and slow release fertilizer, that is competitively priced and ready to transplant directly into your garden. Plants are primarily sold and shipped in 4" deep perennial pots and /or trade gallon containers.
If you were to visit me in the nursery or in my garden, then I'm reluctant to say, that you will not see me looking like this. I'm all dressed up here! Instead, you'll find me in a soiled baseball cap and a tee-shirt, looking like I have been digging in the dirt, which is exactly what I do best. So I thought you might like to see what’s hiding under that hat!
Oh, and one other thing that I must warn you about is my passion to talk, and especially about gardening! My father was nicknamed Jabbo, and I can say that I most definitely took after him when it comes to conversing... So, if we ever do get a chance to chat, then I sure hope that you have some spare time to jabber with me about gardening. I do love to share what I have learned through my trials and errors of gardening. I can surely advise you of what not to do! Maybe, I can save you from making some of the same mistakes that I made... I may not know all the answers, nor know how to pronounce all of the Latin names of each plant, but I will share, help, and explain all that I can, so you will have success in your gardening endeavors.
Happy Gardening,
Donna Carter Vincent
