Salvia microphylla ‘Hot Lips’

Two-tone red & white, tough, multi-branch perennial that tends to become woody the older it gets. Growing 3 foot tall and wide in full sun or part shade, drought tolerant once establishes. Good garden soil or sandy loam, humus and lime are helpful. The plant produces flowers its first year and grows rapidly, attaining full size in its second year. Adored by hummingbirds and insect but usually ignored by deer. Deadheading will promote flower production.  In late winter, remove all woody stems as close to the ground as possible to encourage new growth in spring.  A beautiful salvia to grow in mass planting.
