Baptisia australis 'Blue False Indigo'
~ 2010 Perennial Plant of the Year ~ Gently spreading to erect perennial with glaucous stem and palmate, mid-to deep green leaves, each with 3 ovate to inversely lance-shaped leaflets. In early summer bears many blue-racemes of dark blue flowers, often flecked with white or cream, followed by black seed pods. Useful in flower arrangements. Grow in open, porous, preferably sandy soil in full sun. Deadheading after flowering to encourage more blooms.
